Sabbatical

A clergy sabbatical is an extended time of rest, renewal, and spiritual growth for our pastor. It is offered every five years of service. Sabbaticals are not vacations—they are sacred times set apart for reflection, prayer, study, and personal restoration.

This time away allows clergy to step back from the daily demands of ministry. They reconnect with their sense of calling, explore new ideas, and return refreshed, inspired, and re-energized for the work ahead.

But sabbaticals aren’t just for the pastor—they are also a gift to the congregation. During this time, we have the opportunity to grow in new ways as a church family. We welcome guest preachers and teachers who bring fresh perspectives. Lay leaders step into new roles, discovering and sharing their own gifts for ministry.

We may also explore new approaches to study, fellowship, or service. These experiences can deepen our shared sense of mission and strengthen our connections with one another.

A sabbatical is not a pause in the life of the church. In many ways, it becomes a season of growth and momentum. It reminds us that the strength of our church is not found in one leader alone, but in the many people who make up the body of Christ.

When the pastor returns, both clergy and congregation are renewed. Together, we move forward with fresh energy, deeper faith, and a renewed vision for the future.

We embrace sabbatical time as a gift of grace—an investment in the long-term health and vitality of our pastor and our church.
